High-temperature-short-time thermal quarantine methods

چکیده
In this paper, kinetic models are discussed with respect to their uses in describing the intrinsic thermal mortality of insect pests. A unique heating block system was used to obtain kinetic information for the thermal mortality of codling moth larvae. The kinetic data demonstrated the possibility to develop high-temperature-short-time thermal treatments to control codling moth and reduce thermal impact on product quality. Equations are presented to evaluate cumulative effects of any time–temperature history on the thermal mortality of target insect pests and on the quality of host materials. Computer simulation results demonstrated that the cumulative thermal effects on product quality during the heating period in conventional hot air or hot water treatments are much more important than the cooling period. Radio frequency (RF) heating or microwave heating is suggested as an alternative to reduce adverse thermal impact to treated commodities during the heating period. A case study is presented to demonstrate the effect of RF heating in a high-temperature-short-time thermal treatment to control codling moth larvae in in-shell walnuts. © 2000 Elsevier Science B.V. OBJECTIVES The purpose of this research was to measure fever prevalence and the effectiveness of a fever screening procedure in detecting febrile arrivals at an international airport in Korea. METHODS Data were retrieved from arrivals' health declaration forms and questionnaires for febrile arrivals at an international airport collected by a national quarantine station during the year 2012. S...
متن کاملOptimization of time and temperature of dam construction for thermal analysis of RCC dam
In RCC dams, usually large amounts of concrete are poured in a short time that the heat generated by the cement hydration has led to an increase in temperature in the dam body. In this research, Abacus software, which is a finite element software, has been used for thermal analysis of the dam during construction and concreting. This is how thermal changes are applied. For the structure of 50 c...

Earthquake is one of the most destructive natural phenomena which has human and financial losses. The existence of an efficient prediction system and early warning system will be useful for reducing effects of destroying earthquake. In this research, the soil temperature time-series data, obtained from three meteorological station, using three filters (Fourier, Wavelet and Logarithmic Different...
متن کاملThermal behavior of ethylene/1-octene copolymer fractions at high temperatures: Effect of hexyl branch content
In this work, the effect of hexyl branch content on thermal behavior of a fractionated ethylene/1-octene copolymer with emphasis on high temperatures was investigated. The ethylene/1-octene copolymer was carefully fractionated to different fractions with homogenous hexyl branch (HB) content by preparative temperature rising elution fractionation (P-TREF) method. The P-TREF fractions were therma...
متن کاملExperimental evaluation of thermal stability of PS- MWCNT nanocomposite as a real-time dosimeter
Introduction: Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) are ideal reinforcing fillers for a polymer matrix, because of their nanometer size, high aspect ratio and, more importantly, their excellent mechanical strength, and electrical and thermal conductivity. The CNTs are categorized into two groups: SWCNT and MWCNT. MWCNTs would have diameters ranging from 2 to 100 nm and lengths of up to tens ...
